This book contains two poems, The new lay of the Völsungs and The new lay of Gudrún. The first tells the story of the great hero Sigurd, who slayed the dragon, Fáfnir, and rescued the Valkyrie Brynhild who was surrounded by a wall of fire. The new lay of Gudrún is a follow-up were the story of her fate after her brother Sigurds death and her forced marriage to the mighty Atli is told.
