Nemi is a gloomy, deathly pale goth girl, who dresses all in black and feels most at home at the pub – with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other. The series began in 1999 as a daily comic strip in the Dagbladet newspaper, and quickly became popular. That same year, Lise Myhre won the City of Bergen’s Comic Book Prize for newcomers. In 2002, she was awarded the City of Oslo’s Artist Prize for her ‘outstanding contribution to the arts in Oslo’. Nemi was given her own magazine in 2003, and fifteen collections of Nemi comic strips have been published so far. Sugar and Reptiles is a collection of the best Nemi comic strips.
